The North Queensland Touch was founded in 1974 and now consists of 23 Affiliated Touch Associations spread from Mackay in the South to Thursday Island in the North and streching to Mount Isa in the West.  With over 20,000 registered players.  Approx 1100 senior teams and 400 junior teams and 1000 Officials including Coaches, Referees and Selectors.

The first NQ Championships were staged in Townsville in June, 1978 with teams from the then 10 Affiliated bodies competing in the sole division of Mens Over 25 years.
